WA Paid Leave ER Reporting Begins July

Washington’s Paid Family and Medical Leave program kicked off this year when employers began collecting premiums on January 1. Employers will start making Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave quarterly reports by filing both their first and second quarter reports between July 1 and the program’s first reporting deadline, July 31, 2019. Beginning January 1, 2020 Washington’s Paid Family and Medical Leave allows employees to take up to 12 weeks of leave when they have a qualifying event like welcoming a new child, experiencing their own serious injury or illness or taking care of a seriously ill or injured relative. Leave may also be taken related to a family member’s military deployment, including childcare. If more than one event occurs in a year, up to 16 weeks may be taken. Up to 18 weeks for a serious health condition during pregnancy that results in incapacity.
